Hi, I’m Laurence, the founder of Barksmith, and more importantly, Smithy's human. Like most dog owners, I love taking my best mate everywhere with me: beach runs, road trips, weekends away, you name it.

But I quickly realised that while Smithy had the time of his life, my car didn’t. Sand, fur, and muddy paw prints seemed to come home from every adventure. Barksmith began as my way of finding a better balance, a way to let dogs travel in comfort and style, without leaving chaos in their wake (or at least, leaving LESS chaos).

Smithy is a lively, loyal, endlessly curious pup who inspired every product in our range. He’s the original product tester and has never been shy about giving his opinion, usually by sitting, scratching, or snoozing exactly where he shouldn’t. If something doesn’t pass the Smithy test, it doesn’t make it into the Barksmith range. It’s that simple.

Every design has to be comfortable enough for him, durable enough to survive his adventures, and practical enough for me to keep the car spotless afterwards.

From those early days testing prototypes myself, Barksmith has grown into a small Australian brand with a clear mission: to make travelling with your dog easy, comfortable, and clean. We don’t overcomplicate things, we just focus on thoughtful, well made essentials that make a difference in your everyday life. Whether you’re heading to the beach, the park, or even all the way across the country, our products are built to handle the journey and keep tails wagging (and knocking things over).
